With a child sponsorship you give a very specific child or young person a good start in life. You make a valuable contribution to sustainable poverty reduction and are personally informed 1-2 times a year how your sponsored child is doing.
Finance education
You pay the costs of hiring a teacher. Teachers are paid fairly, one teacher gets a long-term job and all students benefit from it. They ensure that a larger number of children receive a great education.
Education is the cornerstone of self-help – because a sponsorship not only fundamentally changes the life of a single child for the better, but also the whole family benefits from it. Our sponsored children are given the opportunity to realize their dreams of the future and to support their families.
Nepal has no functioning social system, there is no free medical care or a pension for the elderly. Thus the whole hope of these families lies on the children, who are made possible a school education. As a rule, our sponsored children start school at the age of six and have the opportunity to finish the highschool in grade 12.
Therefore, we are looking for reliable sponsors who are willing to pay 25-30 Euro per month for at least 3 years. This three-year period is necessary to ensure the overall financing of a child. Only if a child has enough sponsors to get an education up to sixteen, the next child will start school. Of course, certificates and photos will be provided by us at the end of each semester, at least twice a year.
In Nepal, schools, at least in densely populated areas, are open to children between the ages of five and sixteen, but the cost of school uniforms and exercise books, books and pens is often higher than families can afford. We at Chay Ya have gained many years of experience in our school projects and are convinced that nothing is more effective against poverty, disease and even child weddings than education. Therefore, Chay Ya decided to support children through sponsorships, because nothing is more sustainable than to invest in the education of a child.

What began as a small Austrian family project with two children in the year 2009 now encompasses over 20 children in various parts of Nepal. Chay Ya only selects children from the poorest sections of the population to ensure that the support really gets where it is needed most urgently. Many of them have lost one or both parents, or come from oppressed ethnic groups such as Tibetan ethnic groups of the Lama, Gurung or Tamang. Others of our sponsored children come from the lower castes.
Chay Ya offers two types of sponsorships so that every godchild receives support until the end of his or her school career:
School-leaving certificate sponsorship
With 25-30 Euro per month the godmother commits himself to support his godchild from the first day of school until the end of highschool at the age of 18 or 19. These sponsorships last between 8 and 13 years, since the school age of the children varies and is normally between the fifth and eighth years of age of the child. Since there is an annual inflation of 10% in Nepal, the costs can be higher in the long run.
3-year sponsorship
With this sponsorship, the sponsor undertakes to pay a monthly contribution of 25-30 euros for three years, depending on the region. The godchild has several godmothers, depending on the age at which they start school, who together ensure a school-leaving certificate. Thus Chay Ya prevents that children have to be taken out of school after the end of sponsorships.
Teacher sponsorship
By sponsoring teachers, they give many children the opportunity to receive an education. However, the costs vary from region to region, between 180 and 250 must be calculated per month. They have the possibility to take over the full financing. Alternatively, we also offer the possibility to take over half or a quarter of the financing.
