Role of the host
Volunteering at Chay Ya
Your hosts have a crucial role to play during your stay in Nepal. Your hosts will assist you during this time, be one of your first contacts and connect you with others, show you the surroundings and answer all your questions as best they can during your work and give you the necessary support. Your hosts will prepare your stay and are responsible for various things:
Accommodation
The most important point during your stay is to find suitable accommodation for you. Most of the time there are local families who are willing to open their homes for you. If possible, all volunteers should be given their own room so that privacy is guaranteed. It is also very important to check with the volunteers and hosts beforehand about prices for accommodation and meals.
Transport
It is up to the hosts to arrange the easiest and cheapest way of transportation for the volunteers. Prices should be estimated in advance, communicated with volunteers and tickets booked.
Contact address
In each location, at least one contact address should be provided to an English-speaking resident to whom you can turn in case of a problem or question.
Timetable
It is very important that a timetable is drawn up for each volunteer with the corresponding working hours, working days, weekly goals and plans.
Volunteers’ expectations
The task of the project partners is to communicate your expectations to the volunteers. Together we will evaluate whether the expectations are compatible with your schedule and discuss this with you on arrival. A conscious understanding of the expectations and tasks of all involved is important to avoid misunderstandings and failures.
Possible leisure activities
The hosts can help you with the organization of your free time and help you with tips from the surroundings for a great weekend or holiday. You can also get a better understanding of the surroundings and the leisure activities available in the area where you will be working and take the necessary equipment with you from home.
