Project
Shree Deaf and Impaired Hearing Residential Basic School (SDIHRB) is a type of comprehensive boarding school for deaf children and teenagers in Basatpur, Rautahat. It covers kindergarten up to and including grade 8, and the students range in age from 5 to 19 years. A total of 61 deaf children and adolescents live and study at SDIHRB. They are cared for by three teachers and two nurses.
The SKIHRB is bursting at the seams. The 61 residents share only four rooms! These have to serve as sleeping quarters, classrooms and kitchens at the same time.
The government started the construction of a school building a few years ago, but never finished it due to financial difficulties. The children urgently lack space to devote themselves fully to their education. Many families in Rautahat are very poor and people with disabilities have it extra hard. Education is the only chance these children have for a better life.
Chay Ya’s plan is to add another floor with four bedrooms and a bathroom. In addition, the school building that has been started is to be completed. In the end, there should be four additional classrooms and eight dormitories, so that girls and boys can sleep separately. In this way, the children will finally have the peace and space they need to dedicate themselves to their education!
The government will cover 15% of the construction costs as well as all follow-up costs.
Sustainability Claimer
Due to the special focus on sustainability, the teachers’ salaries as well as the teaching material at the schools we support are normally paid by the government.
Under special circumstances, such as in very remote schools or in the case of marginalised ethnic groups, these costs are covered by Chay Ya for one year.
