Project
People with disabilities in Nepal are exposed to a high degree of stigmatization and neglect. They are often shunned by their own families and have little access to education and social inclusion.
Chay Ya will build a learning center for 20 children and adolescents with physical disabilities aged 5-15 years. There, the children will be supported in various areas. As far as possible, they will attend the local school together with the other children in the village. In addition to schooling, practical skills are also promoted to enable the children and young people to enter the job market later on. For example, they can learn sewing and handicrafts. There will also be physical support through physiotherapy.
The center is designed to be barrier-free, with wheelchair ramps and guide rails for children with visual impairments.
Further, it is possible to add on another floor to expand once the project has been successfully implemented.
The aim is to provide the children and young people with education and practical training in order to facilitate their later access to the labor market and thus to financial (partial) independence. In addition, the children are to be integrated into village life and the community, thus advancing the inclusion of people with disabilities in society.
Like all Chay Ya projects, the center is designed to be sustainable. All running costs will be covered by the regional government once implemented.
Sustainability Claimer
Due to the special focus on sustainability, the teachers’ salaries as well as the teaching material at the schools we support are normally paid by the government.
Under special circumstances, such as in very remote schools or in the case of marginalised ethnic groups, these costs are covered by Chay Ya for one year.
