Shree Ajij Miyan Secondary School is an educational institution serving 1,565 students (732 boys and 833 girls from kindergarten through 12th grade). It is the only school in the region that offers secondary education in addition to elementary schooling. As such, it plays a central role as an educational institution for children from diverse communities and remote villages.

The vast majority of students belong to the Dalit community (the so-called “untouchables”). It is noteworthy that the principal himself is from the Dalit community. Under his leadership, the school has set new standards in promoting equality and inclusion. For his outstanding commitment, he was honored by the Nepalese federal government with an award as “best teacher and principal.” His vision is to make the school known for its high-quality education and to establish it as one of the best schools in the district.

The school currently has a total of 16 classrooms, five of which are used to teach the 661 primary school students. However, these classrooms are constructed of corrugated iron, are severely outdated, and are in very poor structural condition. Leaky roofs and unstable structures result in an unsafe and inadequate learning environment for the youngest children. Given the growing number of students, the existing classrooms are no longer sufficient for the primary school. The poor structural condition not only jeopardizes safety but also significantly impairs the quality of learning. Therefore, four new classrooms (including furniture) as well as restroom facilities for the primary students will be constructed here over the next few months.

Following this, a Phase 2 is being planned, which will expand and improve the secondary school facilities. To this end, the existing structures will be completed or renovated. This will ensure that students can seamlessly transition to a high-quality secondary school upon completing elementary school.

The local government is contributing 10% of the construction costs.

Sustainability Claimer

Due to the special focus on sustainability, the teachers’ salaries as well as the teaching material at the schools we support are normally paid by the government.

Under special circumstances, such as in very remote schools or in the case of marginalised ethnic groups, these costs are covered by Chay Ya for one year.
