As part of our commitment to improving the quality of education in Nepal, Chay Ya has developed an innovative teacher training program to address the challenge of inadequately trained teachers. Despite a standardized state school curriculum in Nepal, the qualifications for teachers are set remarkably low – only a high school diploma is required to teach in public schools. This low barrier to entry often means that teachers feel overwhelmed in their day-to-day work, especially when dealing with the individual needs of their pupils, and often they are unable to provide high-quality lessons due to a lack of knowledge of modern teaching methods. The direct result is suboptimal school performance for children, which significantly impairs their future prospects.

To address this critical gap, Chay Ya has been organizing annual training workshops for teachers since 2015. Specialized experts with in-depth knowledge of modern pedagogy and teaching methods are engaged for this important initiative. Each year, these experts conduct a three-day intensive training course for up to 40 teachers from all over Nepal. Although many of the participating teachers come from schools established by Chay Ya, the program is open to teachers from all over the country.

By improving the quality of teaching, the aim is to significantly improve children’s school performance and thus give them better opportunities for the future. This project underlines Chay Ya’s efforts to bring about sustainable change in the Nepalese education system through targeted educational initiatives.
