Project
Shree Chundevi Basic School is located in Machhegaun, at the foothills of the beautiful Chandragiri hill. There are about 250 houses in this village, whose 1,200 inhabitants belong to the Tamang, Magar, Newar, Brahmin and Chhetri ethnic groups.
Unfortunately, the school building is old and in a dilapidated condition due to the earthquake, so students can only learn at high risk. So far, the government has not taken any initiative to rebuild it. Therefore, with the financial support of the Carnevali Foundation, we are building a two-story RCC building (earthquake-proof!) with eight classrooms.
We are very happy that the Municipality has committed to increasing the existing education program from five to eight classes and to covering the salary of the additional teachers. Finally, the older children of the village will have a chance to continue their education!
The number of students is expected to grow from 60 (35 girls and 25 boys) to 150 after the reconstruction. We want to finally offer them safe, learning-friendly classrooms.
Sustainability Claimer
Due to the special focus on sustainability, the teachers’ salaries as well as the teaching material at the schools we support are normally paid by the government.
Under special circumstances, such as in very remote schools or in the case of marginalised ethnic groups, these costs are covered by Chay Ya for one year.
