Bhediyahi village is home to approximately 919 households, with a total population of nearly 5,000 residents. According to the municipality’s records, the population is comprised of approximately 20 % Brahmin and Muslim communities, 60 % Dalit (the so-called untouchables), and 20 % Janajati groups. A significant portion of these communities have historically faced social and economic marginalization.

Shree Shankar Basic School is one of only two educational institutions serving the village community. Despite its vital role, the school is severely under-resourced, and the children there face extremely challenging conditions. Currently, 212 students between the ages of 4 and 12 (100 girls and 112 boys) attend the school and are supported by a dedicated team of just four teachers, who manage all academic and extracurricular responsibilities despite limited resources.

The original school structures (made from mud with bush-thatched roofs) have deteriorated significantly, primarily due to damage caused by monsoon and other environmental factors. As a result, students have been displaced and are now attending classes on the open floor of the village meeting place, which is covered only by a basic truss roof. This space lacks the infrastructure necessary for effective learning, and due to the absence of separate classrooms, students are forced to study in combined classes. This situation not only hampers the quality of education but also creates a highly disruptive and distracting learning environment. Winters are icy cold, and summers are burning hot.

Therefore, Chay Ya will build seven new classrooms plus toilets to create a safe, well-structured, and inspiring learning environment for the students. The proposed RCC-built classrooms will enable proper separation of grade levels, ensuring that each group receives focused instruction in a dedicated space. This improved setting aims to enhance students’ concentration, academic growth, and overall well-being—allowing them to continue their education and strive toward a brighter future.

The government has already committed to paying 20 % of the total construction cost.
