Project
Pratapkot is one of the remotest villages in Dang district and is located at an altitude of 1,450 m. Its inhabitants are very poor, with many of them belonging to the Dalit caste (“untouchables”). The village school’s structure is very weak and the building lets in water during monsoon season. Plus, there is not enough room to accommodate all of the students.
To offer the 231 students and their 13 teachers a safe place to learn, we are planning to construct 7 classrooms on two floors, adequate toilets and a compound wall. Furthermore, the students will get sufficient benches, tables and blackboards to improve the quality of teaching. Also, two more advanced classes will be added (grades 11 and 12), so the older kids can continue their education. In the long term, we therefore expect the number of students to grow up to 295.
Sustainability: Tulsipur Sub-Metropolitan City has assured to take care of 20 % of the construction costs and will pay for all wages and running costs after completion of the project.
Sustainability Claimer
Due to the special focus on sustainability, the teachers’ salaries as well as the teaching material at the schools we support are normally paid by the government.
Under special circumstances, such as in very remote schools or in the case of marginalised ethnic groups, these costs are covered by Chay Ya for one year.
