Project
The village of Shipchet is located at an altitude of 2,490m in Tsum valley, in the very north of the district of Gorkha. The earthquake in April 2015 destroyed not only the 35 houses but also the only school building. Six months later, the rubble had to be cleared away before work on the new school building could begin.
The new school is comprised of six new classrooms, a library and additional toilets. It was built on dry masonry with a module of wooden beams and is equipped for 35 students.
Sustainability Claimer
Due to the special focus on sustainability, the teachers’ salaries as well as the teaching material at the schools we support are normally paid by the government.
Under special circumstances, such as in very remote schools or in the case of marginalised ethnic groups, these costs are covered by Chay Ya for one year.
