Project
The region of Namkha, where Limi Valley is located, does not have a working health facility. There is one single state health post which is never occupied. Long distances and a lack of alternatives make it impossible for the local population to seek professional medical assistance for medical check-ups, emergency situations and births.
Therefore, Chay Ya, in cooperation with the local government and community, is building a health and maternity ward, where all residents, especially mothers and children can receive optimal medical care. Special attention is to be paid to pre- and postnatal care, as well as the reduction of mother-child mortality.
A committee of at least 33% women will be formed to monitor and evaluate the project. It is composed of community officials, a locally elected community member, a representative of Chay Ya, a health post representative, a member of the women’s group and a journalist/teacher.
Sustainability: The local government is participating in the project with 20% of the construction costs and will cover the personnel expenses after completion of the building.
Updates
Update August 2020
At the imposing altitude of 4,000 meters, we celebrated the laying of the foundation stone on August 14, 2020! 181 families in the Limi Valley, as well as another 3,900 people in the surrounding area, will benefit from the health center.
Update December 2020
The addition of the maternity post to the already existing health post in Limi Valley has been completed in record time! We are very happy. Very harsh winters in this region generally result in a prolonged construction phase. However, the population was so motivated that the construction was completed in only six! months, so that the people in and around Limi Valley have had top health care since November 2020. Due to heavy snowfalls it was not possible for Kamal Thapa to inaugurate the new building, but this will certainly be made up for in the summer!
