Mugu District is one of the most remote and economically disadvantaged areas in Nepal, located in the northwestern part of the country. Within Mugu District, Soru Rural Municipality stands as a significant administrative unit, playing a crucial role in addressing the needs of its residents. One of the pressing issues faced by women in this region was limited access to maternal healthcare along with other health service facilities. Expecting mothers were forced to travel a difficult two-hour route if they wished for assistance, with many of them ending up giving birth on the way.
After witnessing such a tragic incident, regional officer Meen Rawal decided to ask Chay Ya for help and we decided to take action. Within a year we built a health post with basic health services for the entire population and including a maternity ward to take care of all pregnant women in need.
The Municipality contributed 20 % of the construction costs and will take care of all running costs.
