Rajpur borders India to the south and Banke District to the west. The Rapti river forms the northern border of the municipality. A high percentage (45 %) of Dalit (the so-called untouchables) live here.
Although there is already a Community Health Unit in Dagmara, it is very small and does not have any rooms to admit inpatients. Therefore, severe cases can’t be treated here but have to be transported to the hospital in Tulsipur which is over 120 km (or about a 3 hour) drive away or they have to queue for hours at the border to be treated in the closer hospital in India. Similarly, there is nowhere for women to give birth in Rajpur.
Chay Ya is planning to build four new rooms to solve this problem. The government has committed to covering 25 % of the total construction costs.
