Shree Shanti Namuna Secondary School is located in the Tilottama municipality, one of the fastest-growing municipalities in Rupandehi District. It serves as a key educational hub for many children. Over 7,000 students are enrolled here, including many children with disabilities. Currently, 47 blind and deaf-blind students aged 6 to 18 attend the school; despite their high need for support, they lack adequate access to living or sleeping accommodations. Their parents must bring the children to school and pick them up every day, as the commute is often too long and arduous. Many parents therefore spend the entire day on the school grounds or rent additional housing near the school. As a result, numerous families lose any opportunity to pursue gainful employment, leading to significant social and economic burdens.

To provide these children with a safe learning environment, a barrier-free dormitory with eight rooms on two floors is to be built on the school grounds. In addition, special educational and therapeutic programs, as well as training to promote communication, mobility, and life skills, are planned. These measures are intended to strengthen the students’ independence and prepare them for a self-determined life in the long term.

The local government has agreed to contribute 19 % of the construction costs and to cover all operating expenses.

Sustainability Claimer

Due to the special focus on sustainability, the teachers’ salaries as well as the teaching material at the schools we support are normally paid by the government.

Under special circumstances, such as in very remote schools or in the case of marginalised ethnic groups, these costs are covered by Chay Ya for one year.
