Project
There is only one basic school in the village of Bhediyahi. It runs from kindergarten to 6th grade in two buildings that offer very little space for the students. Since there is only one school, children from all the surrounding villages come here to receive an education. Almost all classes are overcrowded with sometimes up to 100 (in grade 1 even 130) students per room. In order to expand the school up to grade 8, the school has received approval from the municipality, but lacks funds for construction.
From 2018-2020, Chay Ya has already supported the school (see here) by renovating the old building and adding a second one with four large classrooms. Now the plan is to add a second floor with another four classrooms to reduce the number of children per room. The municipality will provide the necessary funds for additional teachers.
Currently there are 483 students from playgroup to grade 6 (ages 4 to 14), 222 of them boys and 261 girls. They are taught by nine teachers: two female teachers take care of the playgroups and four male and three female teachers teach grades 1 to 6. The Shree Paroha Basic School currently only has a total of six classrooms in which classes from kindergarten to grade 6 take place.
Paroha Municipality has agreed to cover 50 % of the construction costs.
Sustainability Claimer
Due to the special focus on sustainability, the teachers’ salaries as well as the teaching material at the schools we support are normally paid by the government.
Under special circumstances, such as in very remote schools or in the case of marginalised ethnic groups, these costs are covered by Chay Ya for one year.
