Project
The village of Chundevi is located slightly higher up and overlooks the Kathmandu Valley. The village has always been characterized by many different ethnic groups, but in recent years it has experienced a noticeable influx of migrants from remote regions of Nepal, who are primarily looking for employment opportunities. This migration trend has contributed to an increase in the number of children from marginalized and economically disadvantaged families attending the local village school.
In 2020-22 (see link), thanks to the Carnevali Foundation, the old, dilapidated school building was replaced with a new, earthquake-proof one. At the same time, the education program was expanded from five to eight classes, and now more than 200 students (100 girls and 105 boys) are taught here!
In order to offer them high-quality education, we would like to add another floor to the two-story building: in addition to the seven classrooms, the school will have a library, a computer room, a laboratory, and a separate staff room. This will not only give the students more space to learn, but above all the opportunity to gain practical and technology-based experience.
The municipality is supporting the construction with a contribution of 21.5%.
Sustainability Claimer
Due to the special focus on sustainability, the teachers’ salaries as well as the teaching material at the schools we support are normally paid by the government.
Under special circumstances, such as in very remote schools or in the case of marginalised ethnic groups, these costs are covered by Chay Ya for one year.
