Project
In the northern region of Gorkha there is a serious shortage of hospitals, which means that people in the rural communities of Dharche and Tsum Nubri have difficulty accessing health services. Emergencies, women’s health problems, infant mortality, old age and health problems of people with disabilities are a major challenge for these regions and often cannot be adequately treated.
The planned community hospital will serve marginalized population groups who have no access to health care facilities. The use of telemedicine will help to connect the small counseling center and health posts from the surrounding areas to communicate and solve health problems of the people in the community. The computerized system (patient input system) will also be used to record the patient profile and medical history. The hospital will provide other various facilities and services such as x-rays, blood tests, ambulance, general ward, emergency ward, 15 beds for patients, specialists, nurses and laboratory technicians. The hospital will also have facilities for waste management, such as wastewater treatment and incineration of hazardous waste generated by the hospital.
The building will be constructed on 4,897 m², with about 1,526 m² covered by the hospital infrastructure. The hospital will have 21 spacious rooms and facilities for gynecology, pediatrics, dentistry and laboratory equipment. Furthermore, specialized health camps will be conducted. The health post will serve approximately 20,000 people from the rural community of Dharche and the adjacent rural community of Tsum Nubri. It will be built with reinforced concrete, which makes it very strong and earthquake resistant.
Updates
February 2020
The area of 4,897 m² has been cleared and the foundation work will begin in the first week of April. The construction of the entire project is scheduled to last until October 2021.
September 2021
Due to Covid-19, massive delays occurred here but construction work could finally be reinitiated! The plans look very promising indeed 🙂 By January 2023, a partial opening should already be possible in order to provide the people of the region with basic medical care. Construction is then to be completed by the end of 2023.
May 2022
During a visit in May, Chay Ya Nepal director Kamal Thapa and the representatives of Earth C-Air could convince themselves of the progress of the project. Since Khorlabesi is extremely remote and difficult to reach by land, the last part of the trip was taken by helicopter! Since September, the walls of all four buildings have already been raised, and by July they should also be roofed. Since heavy monsoon rains and impassable roads are expected again in the summer, extra building materials are being transported to the site at the moment as a precaution so that construction can proceed anyway. As soon as the electrical lines have been laid, the medical equipment can be installed and nothing should stand in the way of the opening in January!
