In October 2025, persistent and heavy rainfall caused severe flooding in the municipalities of Garuda, Durgabhagwati, and Rajdevi in the Rautahat district of Madhesh province. Rivers and drainage channels burst their banks, houses were flooded, farmland was destroyed, and transport routes became impassable. The provision of basic services was disrupted in many places.
Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers were among the most vulnerable, as they faced unsafe living conditions, limited supplies, and compromised health infrastructure.
Together, we mobilized rapid relief efforts in the most affected areas. In the Municipality of Garuda, we were able to support 100 households and 25 pregnant and breastfeeding mothers with essential goods such as food, bedding, and basic household items. In the Municipality of Durgabhagwati, where the local birth center was flooded and had to cease operations, Chay Ya provided targeted assistance to 15 mothers. This complemented the temporary birth tent set up by UNICEF, where women could give birth safely during the emergency. In Rajdevi, which was also severely affected by flooding, 125 affected families received essential household and hygiene items to help them cope with the emergency.
The distribution was carried out in close coordination with local authorities, district offices, health facilities, and volunteers from the community. This enabled us to ensure that the support reached the households most affected. The great gratitude shown by the communities demonstrates how important rapid and coordinated assistance is in acute emergency situations. Together, we were not only able to provide urgently needed support, but also send a message of solidarity and hope.
