Good news from Nepal 😊 Like the rest of the world, Nepal was overrun with Omicron this January, but fortunately, unlike the two previous waves, the number of deaths hardly increased this time.

As of February 23, 2022, the COVID-19 total now officially stands at 976,105, with 10,747 active cases and 11,928 deaths (https://covid19.mohp.gov.np/#/).

It seems the infestation with the Delta variant last year + the increased number of vaccinations have helped prevent many worse cases. Thus, Omicron takes a mild course in most or is even dismissed as a mild flu, with very few cases requiring hospitalization.

In the meantime, the major tour operators are asking the Nepalese government to further simplify entry for tourists in order to finally boost the economy. Also a small Chay Ya Austria group is planning to fly to Kathmandu at the end of March to be present at the inauguration of the new projects.

Hopefully the worst is now finally over!
